BRPD arrests man allegedly connected to beating, fatal shooting of 37-year-old along Lorraine Street

BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge Police have arrested a man on murder charges following the November death of a 37-year-old along Lorraine Street.
Raydrick Sterling, 39, was arrested on one count of second-degree murder on Thursday. He was arrested with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, officials said.
Police say on Nov. 14. Darrell McBride arrived in the driveway of a home on Lorraine Street looking to sell some personal items, when he was confronted by several people.
"The individuals who were there jumped on him and beat him," Baton Rouge Police Department Spokesperson L'Jean McKneely said.
Police say McBride tried to get away, but fell in the driveway of a home across the street.
"And while he was lying on the ground, one of the individuals in the group pulled out a handgun and then shot him," McKneely said.
On Thursday, the Baton Rouge police department arrested Raydrick Sterling -- who they believe was involved in the assault.
Investigators say video footage appears to show a person they believe is Sterling beating McBride with a pipe-like object.
"Now we have this individual, Mr. Sterling, in custody, we're going to interview and talk to him and see what information he has, and what he has to say," McKneely said.
While Sterling was arrested for the alleged beating of McBride, police are still searching for the person who pulled the trigger.
"I don't understand the violence between the young men these days, why they have to kill so much, " Darrell McBride's mother, Lori Patterson, said.
Last month, WBRZ spoke with McBride's mother, Lori Patterson, as she searched for answers surrounding McBride's death.
She says she doesn't know why anyone would do this to her son.
"He was over there with so-called friends. I told him there weren't any of his friends, he believed them and trusted them and thought that he was his friend," she said.

The shooting remains under investigation. Police say they are relying on the help of members of the community and video surveillance to point them in the direction of the person who shot McBride.
Police added that Sterling was arrested for "acting in concert with others who participated in the homicide" of McBride.
