REPORT: Former LSU EDGE Jack Pyburn granted temporary restraining order, allowed fifth year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jack Pyburn, former LSU football player and the first plaintiff listed on a legal complaint filed against the NCAA and SEC, will stay in the NFL and not return to college sports, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Kansas City Chiefs claimed Pyburn Monday afternoon off waivers, where he landed after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Schefter reported.

As a result, Pyburn will withdraw his name from litigation challenging the NCAA and SEC's eligibility rules and no longer plans to pursue more playing time at LSU, according to Schefter.

Pyburn, an edge rusher, played for LSU in 2025 after transferring from Florida. He totaled 52 tackles and two sacks in his time in Baton Rouge.

LSU kicks off the 2026 season against Clemson at 6:30 on Saturday night in Death Valley.
