Vigils and services for Charlie Kirk happening in the capital region

BATON ROUGE — A number of vigils and services were held in the Baton Rouge area for right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
Kirk founded conservative youth organization Turning Point USA and was known for his events on college campuses in which he would debate and engage with students on political topics.
The LSU chapter of Turning Point USA was set to host Charlie Kirk at the university next month, but Friday night, they held a vigil in his remembrance.
Students and members of the community lined up outside the LSU Union Theatre, waiting to pay their respects to Charlie Kirk.
"I wanted to do what he wanted us to do. He didn't want us to stay home. He wanted us to get out and use our voice and talk about the things that were important to us and not be scared and sitting in our homes talking at home and not coming out and do it," attendee Michelle Kinler said.
Some people we spoke with say they weren't familiar with Kirk before his assassination, but hearing about the tragedy made them want to come out and pay tribute to him.
"I never really followed him much. I mean, I heard about them for me it's just, you wouldn't want that to happen to anybody, and it's just kind of a sign of respect," Max Tingle said.
WBRZ did try to attend the vigil held by LSU TPUSA, but we were told no media was allowed except for student media.
We also tried to speak with a member of the chapters organization about the event and we were told "no comment".
Kirk was killed Wednesday when someone shot him with a high-powered rifle while he was speaking at Utah Valley University.
