WOODVILLE — A 78-year-old woman was shot in her Wilkinson County home and later died, with police arresting her grandson, who she lived with, as a suspect in her murder.

According to the Woodville Police Department, Clara Ross was shot at her home along First West Street North on Sept. 2. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

Police later identified her 34-year-old grandson, Roderick Lollis, who lived with her at the First West Street North home, as a suspect in her killing. On Sept. 3, he was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of Schedule II narcotics and possession of a stolen firearm.

He was booked into the Wilkinson County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

Ross' killing came only a few days after two other women were shot in a car along Main Street in Woodville. Officers recovered around 30 shell casings from the scene of the Aug. 28 shooting. A suspect or motive have not been identified in this shooting.

Officials said this is the sixth shooting in Woodville in a month.
