HAMMOND — A tornado touched down just west of Hammond on Monday afternoon, according to a National Weather Service storm survey. The twister was rated EF-0 with maximum estimated winds of 85 mph. It caused no fatalities or injuries.

The tornado touched down at 2:39 p.m. in a parking lot on West Thomas Street. The tornado's path stretched 0.77 miles and reached a maximum width of 40 yards.

Damage along the path was described as sparse, with only minor tree damage and the collapse of an exterior wall of a small professional building near Robinhood Drive.

The damage path continued southward across Interstate 55, with some additional EF0 damage identified near Stein Road and Saint Road before the tornado lifted before Old Baton Rouge Highway.

Eyewitness video and a brief tornado debris signature radar also supported the findings. Additional revisions to the track are possible in the coming weeks as more reports and satellite data become available.
