BATON ROUGE - Five people were formally charged with second-degree murder after a man was shot and beaten to death on Lorraine Street in November.

Darrell McBride, 37, was at the 2700 block of Lorraine Street around 5:12 p.m. when he was beaten and shot, BRPD said. He was taken to a local hospital where he died as a result of his gunshot injury.

According to an arrest affidavit, McBride had driven to Lorraine Street to sell personal items when he was ambushed by 10 men. Damian Drake, Eric Byrd, James Williams, Raydrick Sterling and Christopher Andrews were indicted for murder on Wednesday.
