SATSUMA — The Livingston Executive Airport has received an additional $3.5 million in state funding to allow for further infrastructure improvements and expansion of the runway for the under-construction airport. 

Chairwoman of the Livingston Parish Airport District Delia Taylor told WBRZ that the funds were allocated to the parish's general aviation airport during the most recent legislative session, but it was not until Sept. 17's Bond Commission meeting that the project was formally listed to be funded. 

The money will, in addition to the runway expansion, be used to address underground infrastructure issues like continued expansion of the area's water and electrical systems, as well as addressing drainage issues that have arisen during the project. The money will also be used to clear some trees from the property located just south of the Satsuma exit of I-12.

In total, Taylor says, around $20 million has been invested in the project's design and engineering work. 

Taylor notes that this represents a next step in progress on the airport that has been in development in one form or another since the 2000s. In October 2024, WBRZ reported on crews officially breaking ground on the site. By spring 2026, asphalt was being laid for the airport's runway.

Now, the airport has assets on the ground and infrastructure being put in place that will benefit both the airport itself and the surrounding community.

"One of the things that's a tremendous benefit to the parish is not just that we're bringing aviation services and everything that comes with an airport, but to harden the infrastructure grid around us," she said. "What we have lacked is the infrastructure to bring businesses to us." 

No timeline has been put in place for when the airport would be finished.
